Be Centre Foundation Limited

About

Be Centre assists children aged 3-12 with emotional, behavioural, psychological and social issues using play therapy. We are dedicated to early intervention, stopping cycles of harm and helping children heal from difficulties and major trauma so that they can thrive. Play therapy enables children to work through emotions and traumatic experiences in a safe space that's centred on them – feeling a sense of acceptance, encouragement and freedom. Be Centre has some of Australia's most experienced clinicians in the area. Over 90% of parents report their child has improved post-therapy.

In 2020 we grew from 2 Sydney locations where we delivered over 2,100 play therapy sessions, including the south coast of NSW where we delivered a Festival of Play program including 40 play therapy sessions for at-risk children affected by the NSW bushfires. We also distributed 500 therapeutic play bags to regions in NSW, Kangaroo Island, and WA.

Program donations fund:

Be Centre have exclusively delivered play therapy since 2008 in our purpose-built therapy facility. Our flagship play therapy program called ‘Hear Me Play’ provides 12 individual child-led play therapy sessions to children identified through our professional referral process who are experiencing trauma.

● Therapists assess risks and identify therapeutic goals (with parents) which (by way of example) allows the child to make sense of their difficult experiences, to increase their capacity to manage their emotions and to build their confidence whilst supporting them to achieve developmental milestones.
● Parents are provided play techniques and counselling to sustain new outcomes.
● Children can receive 12 weekly in-person (Sydney) or virtually-delivered Tele-Play sessions with a dedicated therapist. The child-led therapeutic approach sees the therapist focuses on forming and maintaining a warm, caring, accepting and permissive relationship with the child that allows him or her to express their emotions (within safe boundaries), gain insight into their past or current experiences and increase their sense of self-worth.
