The Confit Pathways mission is to reduce recidivism in Australia by helping incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people to develop a positive attitude and mindset around the value of employment and education and provide a strong sense of community to help those who go through our program to successfully reintegrate into society. We deliver bespoke programs within justice centres and have created a network of continuous support post-release and link people to our education and employment partners. Our programs are based around developing close bonds with incarcerated people through fitness and mentorship through mentors with prison lived experience.
The cost of imprisonment for a young person is $511,000 per year in Australia. 61% of young people aged 10-17 who are released from sentenced detention return within 6 months and 80% within 12 months of their release (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Youth Justice report). For every 10 young people that avoid re-incarceration for a year, +$5 million can be saved for the Government and Taxpayer.
Program donations fund:
Our proposal is to use this funding to continue running programs at Reiby, a Youth Justice Centre based in Sydney. This funding will enable us to support four mentors to deliver this project over a 8 week period. This funding does not include the wrap around support that we also provide after this period.
Thank you to our Donors
