About

The Harding Miller Education Foundation is an Australian charity that provides educational scholarships to girls across Australia in public high schools. The girls we support have high academic potential but are experiencing disadvantage. Our educational scholarships support recipients over four years of high school (Year 9-12) and provide these girls with the tools and resources they need to not only complete high school but to reach their potential and build direct pathways to tertiary education.

We have supported over 800 girls since 2016 in over 350 public schools in every state and territory of Australia with life changing educational scholarships. Most of our scholars are significantly disadvantaged, with families who struggle to put food on the table, let alone buy a computer. For some there is no access to technology. With their own devices, and educational tools and resources, and ongoing mentoring and support, these bright, hard-working young women are allowed a level playing field with peers who are more socio-economically advantaged.

Program donations fund:

Funding from the Be Kind Sydney Campaign will enable us to support more Australian girls experiencing disadvantage through our educational scholarships. In 2022 we were able to offer 162 new scholarships. Each scholarship has a total value of $20,000 across the four years (Yr 9-12), and includes a high-quality laptop, high speed mobile broadband, IT support, unlimited online homework help, $2,500 of personal tutoring each year and a prepaid card for school essentials such as uniforms, textbooks and excursions. Scholars also receive a personal coach for the four years who guides them through their educational journey and ensures they make the most of all the scholarship elements.

HMEF also provides scholars with an enrichment program provided in collaboration with Australian universities, education institutions and the corporate sector. Our approach offers personalised support to girls within their families, their communities, and their public schools. The program supports individual students but also their government schools. Almost all the students we support attend socio-economically disadvantaged public schools. Supporting girls to continue through to tertiary education can stop the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Many of our scholars are the first in their family to attend university and they then become role models to siblings, peers and the community.
