Since 2007 Heaps Decent has been creating positive change and connection for children and young people through the delivery of music and visual arts activities. We work with participants who are facing substantial challenges and barriers to successful educational and community participation, and are at high risk of social isolation. Activities are accessible and inclusive of all, tailored to ensure that anyone can complete creative work and feel capable and proud as a result. Creative self expression is positive and highly engaging, and an important part of mental health and wellbeing.
Program donations fund:
Heaps Decent is a small organisation and we rely on the support of our community to provide a quality program of creative activities that supports the skills development and well being of children and youth. This funding will allow the delivery of 30 free mobile outreach workshops in song writing, music production and digital media for young people aged 12 - 18 in Sydney.
Each workshops provides experienced artist mentors plus all materials and technical equipment. Workshops are provided in familiar environments for participants, such as refuges, youth centres and community settings. They are fun and engaging and assist with skills development, reduced stress and anxiety, and increased mindfulness. They support the development of new social connections, self confidence, personal agency and self belief. Participants access high quality creative learning that would not otherwise be available to them.
