About

No-one should go hungry in Australia! One Meal is a 100% volunteer powered, community based not-for-profit providing cooked meals and food hampers across greater Sydney. From Sutherland Shire to Blacktown, Sydney city to the Northern Beaches, teams of One Meal volunteers provide over 2500 weekly meals to support homeless, vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalised members of our community. While our community meal services deliver freshly cooked healthy meals, fresh food hampers and pantry packs, they also do so in a non-judgemental and inclusive environment that creates opportunities for people to connect, engage and feel supported.

Program donations fund:

This project aims to provide our meal patrons with additional take-away breakfast foods and easy eats (e.g. ring-pull tins, energy bars, etc). These packs will help ‘fill-the-gap’ between meal services, and contain nutritious items that require no preparation, cooking or heating. For some patrons, this food support is the only way they afford their rent, electricity or medical bills, and means they more successfully focus on overcoming other challenges they face including housing, employment, mental health, addiction recovery, or other life challenges.

Our programs also proactively create opportunities for connection and inclusion, while reducing the stigma and stress associated with food insecurity. The number of people One Meal supports has more than doubled in the past year to over 2,000 people each week needing meals and food hampers. More than 40% of these are men, women and children seeking food support for the first time ever, and who never thought they would be in this situation.

This funding will directly help to provide essential food support for the growing need in our local communities.

Food insecurity negatively affects physical and mental health, and is often made worse by difficulties engaging due to social and economic barriers, and embarrassment or shame associated with asking for help. This funding will directly contribute to better physical, mental and social health of some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
